A Birthday, Some Boots and a Crankster

Today was/is my amazing husband's birthday! For breakfast I made him cinnamon rolls, eggs and sausage. I also concocted a frappacino-like drink from the maple-bacon flavored coffee (his sister sent as a gift) and added that to the breakfast. Overall it seemed very successful, which is saying a lot for me... the breakfast I usually make always ends up burnt!

From there we went to the Street Fair in a neighboring town where we did a wee bit of shopping. No pictures yet. But I did find a pair of awesome worn, but-not-too-worn motorcycle boots pretty much the exact kind that I have always wanted. They were at the rummage sale we hit and scored for $1.00!! I also grabbed a few other treasures including some wooden building blocks for H.

Speaking of H, she's turned in to quite the crankster in the last week or so. Naps and bed time are pretty much a disaster lately. She cries as soon as we put her down and we're not really sure why. She is using so many words now that we are able to ask her what is wrong, but it doesn't always help. We've tried the cry it out method and sometimes that works even though it makes me feel not so great. Every day is different and that is how we roll around here. Trying to tire the babe out to no end by supplying her with maximum running time!

Still no real news on the house front. We are just waiting on our mortgage to go through. In the mean time I think of the little things I want to do with this home. Here are just a few thoughts I've had.

-We are definite no shoes in the house people ( it bring in dirt and toxins and germs to a place where we all hang out.. the floor!) So I want to have a basket by the door with cozy socks and slippers to offer all our visitors.

-I'm looking forward to spending time on the screened in porch. Sipping tea and looking at our little lake across the street.

-Planting. veggies,fruit,flowers,foliage. Today I planted seeds and some little plants into containers. I'll tell you more about that this week.


Overall, it was a great, relaxing weekend! Happy Birthday, Zach!

So the rummage sale did not let me down. The first day, I scored a bunch of beautiful & useful items and Saturday I dragged Zach back for more. It amazes me how I can go over a place with a fine-toothed comb the first day- yet when I go back there are gems I've missed!


A couple of vintage berets, a wool skirt, some wool sweaters for felting and upcycling. A pair of jeans that a perfect for roaming around town-running errands or working in the yard with leaves.

The haul- the first day!


The last of our nursing. Hazel woke around 1 ish and Zach took a few shots in the dim light of our last nursing session. I've been dealing with it. Hazel has been a true champ and is much enjoying her bottles. This kid has an amazing spirit. She's very much a go-with-the-flow, easy going babe. Maybe her mama should take a few tips from her!


Still trying to have hope this new medicine works. But I am very skeptical as I'm sick every morning for at least 1-2 hours. The weekend is here and so is the rain. Got some light sewing in last night. Made Hazel her witch's tutu for Halloween as well as added some tulle to a new dress for an upcoming wedding. Running to the market,maybe bake some spiced muffins- defenitely drinking hot cocoa and cuddling. Then there is our new obsession,Fringe. Zach brought home the first season and I'm hooked!

The Haul

Even though we arrived later than my rummage sale-plan called for- we still were in time for major haul!
Here is the rundown followed by pics:
1 vintage Pooh Bear & Christopher Robin curtain panel

1 dark denim jacket almost never worn- but super soft
1 pair of dark denim jeans (same)

1 vintage gauze dress

3 skirts (2 vintage- 1 linen H&M)

1 vintage nightie (which I want to shorten)

2 vintage summery robes

1 kids apron ( Hazel)
1 handmade coffee mug (scissors)

6 super soft cotton shirts (for reconstructing and such)

1 pr of men's bathing trunks (Zach? - reconstructing?)

3 pair of cargo khaki shorts ( for Zach)

this all came to 17$ Pretty amazing seeing that a lot of it is expensive brand names-that I would never pay full price for- yippee!

Well tomorrow is a big baby/child consignment sale- so I hope I find a few things there too- then maybe one or 2 summer accessories and this mama is done- for reals- except thrifting. I never even shared the haul from 2 weeks ago- maybe I'll get to showing my vintage $2.00 suit one of these days!

In other news- I cut my hair- I was going to go and then I decided to just do it myself. I've done it so many times before- so I went ahead with it.

I'm happy with how it turned out.

On Saturday we hit the rummage sale and I found some great clothes for H. About 5 pair of cotton pants- she can wear now- 18 months,2 adorable dresses (18 months & 5 years) and a few tops- all for $3.00! We finally got our most recent orders out the door and are taking a breather for the moment.

A very serious girl:

Hazel is getting so big- she laughs all the time-talks a lot and loves doing her kicks. She is really starting to notice the kitties and some of her toys. She still hates tummy time on the floor- but is growing stronger a little bit each day. She amazes me every day- I can't wait to start putting her in the Moby facing outward. She seems to really enjoy seeing everything when we hold her in our arms that way.

Well have a great Tuesday-maybe I can go take a nap before she wakes up!

BOGO Black Friday Sale!

After a full day of eating Tofurkey-cornbread stuffing-mashed potatoes-carrots and other delicious foods- I'm amazed there is still room for a bebe in my belly! With 2 days to go (technically) we're getting a little baby crazy here. So we decided to have a BOGO BLACK FRIDAY SALE! Visit our shop for some of the cutest- most unique coffee cuffs around. Made from a mix of vintage & new fabrics- super cute and perfect for a special little gift this year!



I'll be visiting my midwife today hopefully she'll be able to give us hope of an early or on-date-delivery. Zach read somewhere that many first-time-mamas go on an average 8 days after their due date. Disappointing- but what can I do?!

There will be some more holiday crafting over the next few days. The longer Hazel hides- I guess the more holiday gifts I'll be able to finish. We have no plans to visit the malls or stores. We went last weekend to pick up whatever store-bought items we needed. So now it is just up to us to get into create mode! We'll be listening to some of our favorite holiday/Christmas music- watch a few silly movies and have fun( and pretend we're not constantly thinking of the impending baby arrival).

Friday Adventures

If I can remember it- I'm going to try and use Fridays for adventures- till I'm too round to move- then maybe I'll make up some adventures to share from the couch.

Friday morning, walking to the car (in the dark at 6:30am)- I was a bit apprehensive- from what/who I saw yesterday from my window on Thursday. But I carried on.

After dropping Zach at the train station, I drove home to make breakfast. A burnt mushroom/egg white omelet was what I ended up with. I'm really terrible at breakfast foods. This guy is my breakfast-cooking champ! fake bacon? no prob! soy sausage patty? Of course, waffles, eggs, juice and toast- Got It Covered! So I usually leave all breakfast foods and brinner events up to Zach.

It was possible I was just so eggcited (yes, I went there) that it was the Methodist Church Annual Rummage Sale! I am still basking in the glow of um... $7.00 worth of spendings (actually 9- I donated 2 extra dollars) for what would amount to - I dunno $150.00? in a parallel world.

I've learned for this specific sale that the best way to *shop* (which is considered a sport at this event) is to grab any shred of what you might like and hold on tight! Armed with my trusty basket bag and a reusable tote from mom- I grabbed like most- with a VENGEANCE! I knew exactly what I was looking for and where it was- so after waiting in line for it to open, I already had a keen idea on how many tables I'd needed to hurdle in order to beat the older ladies to the punch!

Straight to the linens! Little baby Hazel's heart must have skipped a beat- because mama's sure did! Several very cute- very vintage aprons! A pretty vintage sheet in floral and some very cool linen dishtowels (brand new with tags!). Below is my haul.


A new hat! I wanted one similar to this from Target- I think this was 50 cents!

There were some like-new baby sleepers I found:

this one is just adorable!

When I got home I started on the two kinds of chili I needed to make for Manly Movie Night. MMN or Manly Movie Mamajama (MMM) was started by Zach and a few of his friends in order to get some serious- silly- movie watching done.They all gather together(usually about 12-15 guys)- with a chosen theme and 3 movies to watch. Then let the snackie treats, pizza and other deliciousness ensue.The guys crack jokes and make fun of any ridiculous hair, clothing, lines they encounter. It is actually VERY funny to listen to. But I've always been a fan of these guys- only MMM is possibly a bit raunchier. So 2 chilies(veggie & ground turkey) were made, 5 onions cut and many tears later- they smelled so yummy. All I wanted was a little taste- but alas I held back!

Baby Hazel and I spent the night at my parent's house watching LIFE and chatting. This morning I think Zach and I will hit the rummage sale again- I'm sure now that a lot of things have been cleared out- it will offer a new perspective.

Monday Update

I'm A WINNER!

So I was asked to contribute to sweetie pie, Jessica Jane's Giveaway. So I sent in a autumn coffee cuff and a sweaters in love card. The cool part was that anyone could enter.. and I won! I never win anything! I'm so excited to see the goodies.

Nesting for our Home:
Sunday we stopped at my friend Suzanne's moving sale where I scored,this lovely basket (for free) and the blanket for 5$!



This will get my thrifting senses( similar to Spidey Senses) through the week- till Friday when the event of the winter (next to having baby Hazel) will occur.The rummage sale at a local church. Friday I want to get there as the doors open (9am) - looking mostly for vintage linens,sheets,dishtowels, interesting plates, anything useful, vintage toys( for hubbie & Hazel) and possibly anything in good shape for 18 months & up. I'll also be scouting the men's wool sweaters- since my own do not fit anymore.


I'm working on using these recycled mint tins. Zach's family has been saving them for me, for the last year or more. I'm just now getting around to using them, just in time to create stocking stuffers for the shop!

Making an Adjustment

I knew the day would come when I had to make some adjustments due to my current state, but I just wasn't sure when. Thursday was the day! Due to the short cord on my sewing machine+ my growing stomach + some back aches= moving my sewing machine to a smaller, easier spot. So this is where I'll be zigzagging till Hazel arrives and maybe well after! The window & natural light is a nice little plus.

Yesterday, I was able to accomplish a lot, which made up for my lack of productivity for the beginning of the week! I've started created a home management journal of sorts, with our budget, birthdays,Zach's TV schedule (for work),menu planning and other fun things.

This article is inspiring Zach and I to give once a month or even, once every 2 weeks shopping a try. This website, Get Rich Slowly is one of my new favorites. Plus, I signed Zach up, so now we both get the post and he can read it too, rather than me just pushing it on him.

Today will be the first day we start our true envelope system for groceries, gas and other little items. I'm excited to try it and really make it work. I've made sure to have an envelope for thrifting. What with the annual Pearl River Methodist Church rummage sale coming up next weekend- I'm super excited to go. I'd also like to hit a few local thrifting haunts today- we'll see how that goes.

We received so many beautiful baby clothes from the shower and hand-me-downs, so we need mostly 18months & up. I'm always on the look out for cuteness, wherever I can find it.

I've taken down the *End of Summer* section in our Etsy shop and replaced it with *Holiday Hobo* a section to house all Halloweenie-Holiday-solstice-Christmas items.There are still plenty of Sale items, they're just back in their rightful spots. The shop is also brimming with new
Coffee cuffs just in time for cider-sweater weather!
