Something We Picked Up

So, today on our 4th anniversary of wedded-bliss we met our attorney and bought a house!


We're finally homeowners!

Hazel and I played peek-a-boo in her very big closet, while her papa took measurements and calculated our painting needs. The weeds are so high in the yard we couldn't even let poor Hazel run around. Much to do in this little cottage near the lake. Painting,weeding,planting,transplanting,woodworking and so on. I'm still trying to decide on colors for our bedroom and the living room. But we know we're starting in the bedrooms first. Hazel's will be a bright, cheery yellow. Ours possibly a greenish or pumpkin. What fun.

More nesting adventures to come!

Blogger is changing a bit and I haven't quite figured out how to use the new fancy pants design stuff... so we might look a little um awkward. You know layer upon layer of backgrounds.. please excuse us- hoping to have everything squeaky clean by tomorrow. (this assuming the babe goes down to sleep tonight while I work on it)

yard sale wars

Sunday we set up in my parent's yard under a tent to have a yard sale. I started to realize that many of the things we had in our house we didn't need anymore. Plus, I want to purge some of my stuff. Who really needs 30 + pleather pocket books? I had acquired from 1 too many visits at cheapie vendors in NYC or comic books Zach has collected for years along with his action figures and some random clothing items, we pitched a tent and set up yard sale camp. I don't know if any one is familiar with this new phenomenon I am noticing, but people no longer get out of their cars! They do a drive-by yard sale! Peering at your yard through their car windows! Hilarious! Then they'll get out if they see an item they want. Well I wasn't that familiar with this until a few weeks back when we visited West Point's full on yard sale. It was even funnier when it happened to ours.

Aside from that we had all of the neighborhood kids scouting out all of the action figures and comic books. They didn't just come one by one they came in herds. Buying one, coming back and then bringing a friend and buying more. Luckily we got rid of a bunch because they were super cheap and we threw in a lot of extras. Nice to see kids interested in reading- regardless of the genre.

But then we noticed something.. wait do they have a table set up at the top of the street? Are they indeed selling the items they just bought from us to other people? Pretty hysterical- it turned out they weren't selling the figures they had bought from us- just from their old stash. But people were driving down seeing our beautifully painted signs and seeing their table thinking that was the Yard Sale! Zach was furious. ( all I was picturing was a battle like in those Home Alone movies) He spent a good amount of time thoughtfully pricing and setting up, painting signs and placing them around the surrounding neighborhoods (he even went back and collected them after it was over)so he was a little heated. I was trying not to laugh because after all they were kids! Maybe we lost a few customers- but it turns out the kids were our best customers to begin with! (Although a big thank you to my aunt & cousin who took the remaining pocket books off of my hands and my nieces who took a little of everything else!)
At the end of the day, we all had a little pocket money to dream with. Around 8:30pm one of the kids was hanging around our yard and my mom had to tell him the yard sale was over. He wanted to know how much for the rest of the action figures! I say that was a satisfied customer 3x's over. Ahh kidlets!

I bought 3 of these 100% silk- totally vintage from India. They were 1$ each at a yard sale last weekend- score!

Months ago I had taken Monsters of Templeton on CD out of the library. I don't know when I thought I would listen to it, because it isn't kid-friendly and i never have the time. Regardless, I promptly snatched it up along with a million other things at the library- because sometimes I feel like I am on a shopping spree when I am there. I see so many awesome books, CDs, magazines and I kinda lose it and end up leaving with 2 tote bags full. I listened in the car to the 1st disc then promptly lost it. Luckily I was able to renew it several times and then finally found the 1st disc in my folder of home decorating/renovation. Isn't that where everyone keeps this stuff?

Today was pretty hectic, a dentist appointment this morning- then craziness ensued regarding our closing. It is getting close and we hope to know more this week! Then to add to the craziness my mother and I took Hazel and my niece,Lizzie to IKEA! Like the 3 bears, they climbed into every bed,chair,nook and cranny. Silly babes!



That is what the last few days have looked like. Now I just need to convince Zach to let me paint our bedroom the color of pumpkin pie.

So the kidlet went down remarkably well (cue crying baby) tonight. I was a bit anxious this being my 2nd night in a row bathing & putting her down- because I really appreciate the partnership Zach and I have- so let me just say Thank Goddess for the kid falling asleep without a peep. Those actual walks around the neighborhood and hours of outside play must be working wonders.

I also should wish this little girl, a happy 1 1/2 year birthday! With hopes this fall, we'll be scooting around our own house getting things ready for Thanksgiving and then Hazel's 2nd birthday in December.

Happy half birthday baby! Watching you grow and blossom has been amazing and could only get better xo thank you!

a few things

Months ago I fell in love with these and because I am trying to save money, I just couldn't. But since I wasn't mass creating them- I made some of my own for our own little budget.







We used a Sharpie and velcro- I don't do so great with zippers well actually I hate sewing them! Although only 4 are shown I made 5 pouches. I used some recycled,vintage and new fabrics- trying to stay within a similar color scheme. I only have 2 labeled. Gas & groceries and perhaps fun money or chai money will be designated.

Our wait still continues on the house. I have started packing and we now are in a sea of boxes. Packing with a toddler is kind of impossible. I put 5 things in the box she manages to pull out 7! I have also started purging stuff. We have a yard sale planned in a few weeks and I want to be able to have something to sell.

I added a new cuff to the shop and I have 2 more I am adding. Must go through my inventory and possibly find more unlisted items. Oh and my sewing machine is having a slight bobbin issue- so I'll have to take it back in for a tune up. Anyone else have issues with a Huskystar?
